Valley of Fire is named for its red Aztec sandstone, which looks like it is burning in low sun. Ancient petroglyphs cover several rock faces, and short trails lead to wave-like formations that photographers love.
What to do
- Fire Wave and the White Domes loop (closed in summer)
- Atlatl Rock petroglyphs

- Mouse’s Tank Road at golden hour

Tip: Many trails, including White Domes and the Fire Wave, close every year from 15 May to 30 September because of extreme heat. Carry more water than you think.
